McYouth

McDonough Presbyterian McYouth Ministry welcomes all into a caring environment as we grow in faith to become active disciples of Christ through love and service. We are a value-based youth ministry. There are four Christian values that we hope our teenagers will know and embrace during their time at McDonough Presbyterian: welcoming, caring, faith growth, love, and service.

Welcoming

We hope they know what it means to be welcomed. To be welcomed is to immediately feel loved and cared for. Each person who comes is a special child of God with unique gifts.

Caring

We also pray that they know what it is to be cared for and that they learn to care for others. To love each other unconditionally is at the heart of caring. Whatever happens in life, everyone has a place to be where they won't be judged but will be cared for.

Faith Growth

Together they will learn about what God is doing in our lives and around the world. The life of faith is a journey. We will travel together as we figure out what God calls us to do and whom God calls us to be.

Service & Love

Service and love are tied together because we can't have one without the other. We serve the world because Christ first loved us. To love someone is to serve them, whether we have just met them or are lifelong friends. These four values will be the foundation for our group. They
will guide us in all the things we do.

Sundays & Wednesdays

Youth from 6th through 12th grade gather on Wednesdays to spend time
together, discuss matters of faith, play games, and pray with one another. Sundays at 9:30 am. Wednesday's dinner is served to all youth at 5:30 and programs at 6:30.

Events

In addition to our regularly scheduled events, we also have a Fall retreat, Christmas parties, service projects, pool parties, lock-ins, Coffee and Devotions, Youth Sunday and monthly worship leadership as liturgists, and more.

Summer Trips

Each summer our youth take part in week-long trips together. Whether
we’re serving at Beth-El for Cedarkirk, or deepening our faith alongside young people from across the country at Montreat, our youth are taking part in God’s mission to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.

Events

Our Events are all about being together. We live in an individualistic society in which we are more likely to talk to a cell phone or a computer screen than we are to an actual living, breathing person. When we meet, we meet together. We spend time together: we study together, we work together, and we worship together. Sometimes we split the Jr. High and Sr. High groups in order to provide a safer more effective ministry to each age group, but we always remember that we are a part of our larger youth group and a part of our larger church community. We do anything and everything together, from lock-ins to Bible study to worship singing to mission trips to camp retreats.

Confirmation

It is the tradition of McDonough Presbyterian Church that during the seventh grade year, we go through a process called confirmation. It is a time when you have been specially called to discover more about your own faith. We will enter a process of spiritual growth that is unique and affirming of who you are and who God calls all of us to be.

At the end of the process, we will have explored theological topics ranging from the Bible, stewardship, social action, baptism, and the Lord’s supper. This is a time to ask the tough questions of our faith. What does it mean to be a Christian? What does it mean to be a Presbyterian? Who is God? Does all this church stuff matter? We will not be telling you the right or wrong answer to any of these questions. We will help you discover new and exciting ways of understanding how God is working in your life and in the world. At the end of the process, you will be asked if you feel God calling you into membership (don't worry - we will talk more about that and what that means) at McDonough Presbyterian Church.
